The search engine for translations tool creates a database of translations from the English Wiktionary dump and provides various search pages to browse it.

No prior installation or setup is required to use this tool. To begin use navigate to the url provided below.

On the search engine for translation tool page, there are five search boxes with different keyword requirements for searching the translations from the English Wiktionary to a particular language. 

Languages must be specified by their universal language code ie. for example ‘fr’ for french or ‘es’ for spanish.

Search box 1: This allows you to find all translation entries available in the English Wiktionary when the language code is entered. To do this enter the language code in the ‘Language Code’ search box and click on the search button. This will display a database of available titles (in the English Wiktionary), the part of speech for that title, the definition (in English), and the translated term to the language that was searched for.

Search box 2: This allows you to find all available translations that reference the entered search term. To do this enter the language code in the ‘Language Code’ input box and enter the term you want to find the translation for in the ‘Term’ box and click on search. This will display a table of the translation in the English Wiktionary (title), the part of speech and the definition of the searched term.

Search box 3: This allows you to find all translations linked to an entry with the option to specify the language code. If the language code is left blank this will display all different translations for that entry from the English Wiktionary. Specify the language code to limit results for an entry to the specified language

Search box 4: This allows you to find the translations for the entered transliteration in the specified language. To do this enter the transliteration you want the translation for in the ‘Transliteration’ box.

Search box 5: This allows you to find the translations of the longest words in each language. Specifying the language code limits the search result to that specific language.

Avoid adding leading or trailing spaces to search terms or language codes as this will not yield results when using the search engine tool.
